Core Beliefs
We are guided by a set of beliefs that form the core of our approach to leadership development.
Change is inevitable. Circumstances and people change whether we like it or not. Successful leaders accept this and work to create an environment where change can occur - an environment that is anticipatory, adaptive, innovative, and resilient.
Everyone can change. Human beings are endowed with the ability to adapt to circumstances, learn and apply new ideas and behaviors, and shape themselves and their environment. Successful leaders unlock the potential for change and growth in themselves and others.
Leaders are made, not born. There are no genetic configurations that make someone a great leader. Attitude, self-awareness, opportunity, and experience will trump genetics any day. Successful leaders are acutely aware of their strengths and weaknesses, seek and exploit opportunities, learn and grow from experience, and cultivate and model the right attitudes and behaviors.
Leaders are responsible for outcomes. Leaders take responsibility for achieving outcomes that are, by definition, uncertain. Successful leaders do the things that maximize the odds that outcomes occur. As a result, the best outcomes occur most often around the best leaders.
Leaders influence people. Leadership is about influencing people to take the actions necessary to create the future. Successful leaders have a profound impact on the attitudes, decisions, behaviors, and capabilities of the people in the organizations and communities they serve - e.g., direct reports, peers, bosses, citizens, members, customers, partners, investors, suppliers, etc.
The best leaders make the best leaders. Successful leaders scale their leadership by prioritizing the development of other leaders.
Leadership coaching works. Coaching is a powerful and proven way to help leaders unlock their potential, so they can have a profound impact on those they serve.
Our Mission
To create transformational leadership capacity to meet the growing demands of a rapidly changing world
What do we mean by “lead to change?” To thrive in this rapidly changing and increasingly complex world, individuals, organizations, and communities need to be in a state of continuous transformation. This demands leaders who flourish in complexity and uncertainty — and can be transformational leaders. Despite the growing allocation of resources being devoted to leadership development, there remains a clear shortage of leaders who can meet these demands. This scarcity leaves many organizations unable to adapt to — or perhaps more importantly — shape the future to their advantage. And, as is often the case, those with the greatest need and the most potential, lack the resources to access and develop the leaders they need.
Our experience — and a growing body of evidence — suggests that exceptional leaders are made, not born. It is our belief that with the right support, those who have the desire, and are willing to commit to their own development have the potential to be exceptional leaders. The right kind of leadership coaching has proven to be one of the most effective ways to help leaders accelerate their development. It is especially effective at addressing adaptive challenges — that require a mindset shift.
Lead to Change was established to help fulfill the unmet demand for transformational leaders, and to level the playing field. We do this by directing the profits from working with organizations and individuals who have the means to pay market rates for our services, to support those who cannot.
We provide leadership coaching, organizational consulting, educational programs, and other leadership developmental resources. As a mission-driven, nonprofit organization, we believe our work should be affordable and accessible to all. To that end, for those who lack the means, we offer discounted services. And to further support our mission, we offer research grants and make contributions to other nonprofit organizations through the Lead To Change Foundation, Inc.
